HISTORY
Approximate year of manufacture 1959.
This was originally designed as a microphone for recording. The ribbon was
very sensitive and easily damaged by loud singing or blowing into the
microphone. However, close-up vocal use was made possible by inserting felt
"acoustic correction pads" into the head. The felt pad gave a degree of bass
reduction and protection for the ribbon. An additional yellow fabric insert
at the rear of the head altered the pick up characteristic from Figure of 8
to single side making it less susceptible to feedback and more suitable for
PA use.
Other variations of the RB included:
RBH with an impedance switch - 30 Ohms or Hi-Z
RB/T with a die cast tubular mounting containing the line transformer and
connecting socket.
RB/TS as above but longer to accommodate a sliding on/off switch.
RB/W with an oval die cast mounting containing the transformer and
connection socket with separate ½" tapped hole for stand mounting.
RB/WS as above but with a rotary on/off switch in the stand mounting
position.
RBS alternative impedance choice 30-50 and 1000 Ohms.
RBY alternative impedance choice 30-50 and 10000 Ohms. |
