Rugby Word Cup 2007

GB Audio was chosen to provide sound systems
for the Rugby World Cup 2007. GB Audio installed 3 Shermann high definition loudspeaker systems, including the new R8Ms, in the Press Conference, VIP Suite and Staff Suite at Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh for Scotland's opening matches against Romania and New Zealand in September. |
| GB Audio chief, Graham
Bodenham, designed the systems to meet the requirements of the French
organisers and local technical team.
The VIP Suite was challenging for sound due to the row of chunky pillars situated centrally, down the full length of the room and a desire to keep the kit as unobtrusive as possible. Five zones of coverage, each with independent time alignment and EQ ensured seamless coverage, resulting in clear and intelligible speech throughout the space. The Press Conference was a typical affair with question and answer sessions covered by 4 table mics and 2 roving wireless mics. Balanced audio feeds were provided to the broadcasters and journalists. |

GB Audio provided a complete sound system for the recent Press & Journal Fashion Show 2004 at the Aberdeen Exhibition & Conference Centre. The event, enjoyed by over 2000 fashion fans included a full catwalk show featuring clothes supplied by Aberdeen's top designer outlets. The crowd were also entertained by break dancers, a rapper and singers. With a full size stage and runway to cover, we opted for low profile Shermann MR300 monitors. Six Shermann RS5s were flown to cover the audience areas whilst six R118B subs hidden under the catwalk made sure the system had plenty of welly. top |

GB Audio regularly provided the sound system for air shows at the Museum of Flight in East Lothian, which included a display by the Red Arrows aerobatic display team. | |
![]() |
The main event was a 3½ hour flypast which also featured the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (Spitfire, Hurricane & Lancaster), Utterly Butterly Wingwalkers Flying Circus, Hawker Hunter & Jaguar, Sea King helicopter and a plethora of modern and vintage aircraft. Other attractions included world champion aerobats, RAF Falcons parachute display team, hot air balloons, falconry, archery and kite displays. |
| Our remit was to provide commentary and music playback for the main viewing sites and safety notice coverage for the entire site. This was carried out admirably by a series of flown speaker clusters over the main arena (see photo right) and other key areas. Shermann speakers with Chameleon and Crest amplification were used throughout. The main viewing runway was described as "Top sound" by Red 10, the Red Arrows own commentator and "Excellent sound quality - loud & clear" by main commentator, Ken Ellis (Editor of Fly Past magazine). |
| GB Audio have supplied the sound for the
air show for five years, catering for audiences of up to 15000
people. With such a so many people attending, safety is paramount. Announcements and
safety notices must be heard right across the site. The three car parks needed exceedingly
long throw coverage so we tied in the museum's own portable 100V line horn system for these areas.
Two control centres running in tandem gave full matrix control of all zones via two Yamaha mixing desks with Yamaha system EQ and time delays. Around 3 kilometres of cable was needed and two Sennheiser VHF wireless links to get sound to where it needed to be. top |

Musicals
GB provided additional sound equipment for the Royal Lyceum Theatre Company's major production "Guys & Dolls", which starred Elaine C Smith, Andy Gray and Tom McGovern.
Lyceum Sound Chief, Jako De Wit specified powerful, yet low profile wedge monitors, which could be built into the set. At the time, we knew that Shermann were working on a new design and managed to get our hands on the first ever MR-300s.
The MR-300 is a versatile multi-role speaker, capable of performing a wide variety of tasks. It offers premium performance as a front-of-house PA box; it may be flown, stand mounted or stacked. Using its 45° angle the MR-300 is a compact, unobtrusive vocal stage wedge with an apex height of only 336mm. The other side has a 30° angle, giving a useful alternative where a longer throw or upward fill is required. The MR-300 comprises a high powered 10" mid/bass driver with a 1" compression driver on an 80° x 60° horn.
Other additional kit on the show includes the diminutive GX-106s being used as spot fills, Drawmer gates, Yamaha reverb and Yamaha time alignment. Find out more about the show at www.lyceum.org.uk
