Dual belt drive hi-fi turntable
One of
the UK's most popular record decks from the late 1970s, the CS504 and its successors
CS505 and CS506 represented excellent value for money. Dual's simple design and mass production made good reproduction fidelity
achievable on a modest budget. Choice
of two speeds: 33 or 45 rpm
Vari-speed adjuster
Semi automatic straight, low mass tone-arm
Detachable perspex lid
Dual-specific clip-on headshell/cartridge
Anti-vibration sprung floating chassis
Usable cartridge weight: 4 - 10g
Power requirements: 230V
AC (50Hz)
Power consumption: 8W (max.)
|
The CS504 was sold with a Dual cartridge which clipped onto the end to the
tone-arm. Other standard cartridges can only be used with a special adaptor
plate TK24, which are now extremely rare.
The TK-24 cartridge holder was
also used on the following Dual turntables: 461, 481, 491, 502, 504, 510,
521, 601, 604, 621, 701, 704, 721, 731, 1209, 1210, 1211, 1212, 1214, 1215,
1215S, 1216, 1218, 1219, 1220, 1222, 1224, 1225, 1226, 1228, 1229, 1229Q,
1234, 1234A, 1235, 1236, 1237, 1239, 1241, 1242, 1245, 1246 and 1249.

FAQs
Q1. How do you get the turntable off to
change the drive belt? I think mine is stuck because it won't lift off
of the spindle. G. 06/10/20
Answer: Don't pull it! The CS504
has a unique system for removing the platter.
First lift off the rubber mat - you will need to gently peel off the
centre section which is glued on to the
platter with rubber adhesive.
Then line up the
platter so that the inspection holes are at Left and Right (or 9 o'clock
and 3 o'clock) positions. Through the left inspection hole
you will see a small brass screw head in a slot. Loosen it by a half
turn anti-clockwise and then slide it to the left, as far as it will go.

Now the platter will lift up and out, including
the spindle and bearing.
Flip it over so that you can fit a new
BELT29 on to the drive hub. Take care not to touch the bearing,
except to check that it is sufficiently lubricated before turning it
back over and replacing it.

Then line up the inspection hole with the speed
changer and fish the belt over the motor pulley and under the speed
changer arm. Give the platter a manual spin to ensure that it runs
freely. Replace the rubber mat to complete the job.
If the pitch control does not work, follow the
CS505 video tutorial above.
